With approximately half of UK pension schemes employing a professional or sole trustee, professional trustees can deliver significant governance benefits to pension schemes, however the rapid evolution of the market has introduced risks as well as opportunities. For this reason, the Pensions Regulator’s (TPR) has announced its intention to extend its oversight to include professional trustee firms.
